The National Xball League ( NXL ) held its first event of the EU season at Megacampo Adventure Park , just outside of Lisbon , Portugal this past May . This was their first signature Invitational event of the season , featuring Europe ’ s very best Semiprofessional and Professional teams , including the WNXL all-woman ’ s league . As I write this the second Invitational event is about to take place in Birmingham , England . We ’ ll have full coverage of that event in our next issue . The third and final NXL EU event , the European Championship , will take place August 29-31 in Dreux , France — and this one will be an open event with seven divisions .
The NXL Portugal Invitational featured 20 Professional Xball teams , 4 Women ’ s Professional WNXL teams and 20 Semipro teams . In the Pro Xball division most would call the Toulouse TonTons the event favorite and they certainly looked like it with their 4-0 , undefeated preliminary round showing . Not only did the TonTons win their four opening round games , they did it with a combined score of 21-1 — impressive to say the least . Also impressive were fellow countryman Scalp with their four , first round wins . Lucky 15s Staffordshire , Ronholt Dynamite , Austin FSE from the U . S ., Breakout Spa , Joy Division and PPArena Pilsen each won three preliminary round games .
