“ It was already too late to make our flights ,” Stewart said , “ We didn ’ t stick though all of the other B . S . to take second place . There was no other option than winning in my mind .”
Walker gave credit to the dedication of the players , but touted the staff and the refs as the unsung heroes of the weekend .
“ The real heroes of the event were the guys from Team Fox ,” Walker said . “ They poured their hearts and souls into the fields . They believed in the vision . They believed in the event . They sacrificed their whole season for this . It truly couldn ’ t have happened without them .”
In the end , for those that were there , the ICC / Montressor Classic 2023 was truly an event to cherish for the way that everyone collectively rallied to overcome a horrendous situation .
“ One of my best friends from middle school was there playing his first mech tournament with a huge smile on his face ,” Wittman said , recalling the end of the event . “ Whatever happened on the field is what everyone will remember looking at the APPA scores , and that ’ s fine . But what sticks with me is that the people I met that weekend made the best of whatever we got ourselves into and stuck it out for one another .”
