( From the Editor : Nearly 20 years ago the first Invasion Of Normandy [ then called D-Day ] took place at Skirmish USA . One of the oldest paintball fields in the world , Skirmish USA sits on hundreds of acres in the beautiful Pocono Mountains . It ’ s home to the famous Tippmann Castle , the incredible Rhododendrons , the dozens of diverse and amazing playing fields and a rich history in the game of paintball . Skirmish in its history has hosted some of the biggest events in the early days of the game . The famous Paintcheck Five-Man tournament was held at Skirmish ; the PMI North American Paintball Championships were held at Skirmish in the late 1980s ;
The equally famous World Record Game was held at Skirmish ; and of course , the Invasion Of Normandy has been held here for almost 20 years . If you ’ ve not played ION at Skirmish , it ’ s one of the ‘ can ’ t miss ’ events of the season .)
Invasion of Normandy ( ION ) at Skirmish is a cross between a marathon and a relay race . If you sprint in the beginning you won ’ t have the gas to end the race . If you fall too far behind on day one then you won ’ t be able to catch up on day two . The teams need to work together to make sure no one drops the baton .
