I ’ ve been home from the Iron City Classic ( ICC ) for 24 hours and my head is still spinning . The experience was awesome , inspiring , hopeful and yet still bittersweet . The first Iron City Classic since the passing of its founder and beloved Tim Montressor could not have gone better . The event sold out as it always does ; the weather was perfect ( which you know is no small thing if you ’ ve played this legendary field before ); the games were amazing ; the fields were diverse and a blast to play by all accounts ; and the vibe reminded me of the International Amateur Open back in the mid-90s , which is about the biggest compliment I could possibly give an event promoter . And yet there was no Tim … bittersweet .
Tim ’ s parents , Jennifer and Frank along , with Russell Jackson and a large team of behind-the-scenes people made this event happen — and what a great job by everyone involved . Jennifer , Frank and Russell were all present all weekend , checking in with the vendors , watching games and fixing the little issues as they came up .
The vendor row was packed , mostly with small and mid-size paintball companies , as well as food and drink vendors . Players and fans of the game flowed in and out of the trade show area all weekend . Four fields were used for the 2021 ICC : The famous mounds fields , Hyperball field , woodsball field and hybrid field . Both the mounds fields and Hyperball fields had great spectating from three sides . The
