The first thing that you need to know about
Denver in July is that IT IS FREAKING HOT!
You are much closer to the sun. Not only that,
there is a real thing called “altitude sickness”.
Look it up. So, between the heat and the lack
of oxygen, my first day in Denver was definitely
not something I had fully prepared for. LOL.
Still, I was at Dynamic Paintball that Friday
helping to prepare for Saturday’s game. Due
to Covid, the field needed a lot of clean up
and some repair. The guys and girls from the
Expendables had been there for the last few
days helping with bunker repairs, netting and
all sorts of things. I took a moment to climb one
of the sand berms on the outside edge of the
field to survey the area. The mountains were
to the west as was an air force base, and F-16s
were flying overhead. There was a motorcross
track to the north but for the most part… it was
all open space and it was breathtaking.
Saturday arrived and game day was finally
here…. Man… the place was ELECTRIC. People
buzzing around, setting up. I cannot even begin
to describe the positive vibes coming radiating
from everyone. It was blissful chaos and the
cars just kept rolling in. David Weez Cook and
family flew in from California and he brought a
bunch of Modern Day Pirates with him. Teams
from all over were rolling in to play. We filled the
place. The staging area was full. I am told that
it was in all likely hood the single largest turn
out Dynamic Paintball had ever seen. Vendors
like ZClear and Mile High Paintball showed
up. There was a full airsoft display. There was
a silent auction and an online auction going
simultaneously. We had Biker Jim’s Gourmet
Dogs feeding everyone who was hungry. The
food was so good Jim completely sold out. I
personally never tried the hotdogs. You see the
DJ (yep, we had a DJ too!) was a good friend of
the team and he is famous for his homemade
biscuits and gravy. Since I CAN NOT get biscuits
and gravy in Canada anywhere, the team (the
Denver Expendables) arranged a MASSIVE
amount of it to be brought to the field just for
me. By massive, I mean to share amongst the
team, but I think that I ate half of it! I love my
team so much. (Thank you guys!)
