Denver isn’t exactly known for being a paintball
hub. There is paintball there though, and it is
something to behold. It is also the birthplace of
the Ally Remembered Foundation which I wrote
about two months ago in the May issue of this
magazine. To recap quickly, this organization
is based in the paintball community. The Ally
Remembered Foundation is a fully registered
non-profit organization that was created to
honor the life of a beautiful young lady named
Ally Raber. Ally was taken from this world far to
soon due to domestic violence approximately
three years ago. The foundation’s goal is to
provide education about domestic violence
and support to those affected when possible
in an effort to try and break the vicious cycle of
domestic abuse.
After numerous delays created by Covid, the
second annual charity game was set for July
11th at Dynamic Paintball just outside of
Aurora, Colorado. Man, I was excited… and
scared… I was excited because not only was
I going to see Denver for the first time but I
was going to play paintball with Bud Orr of
autococker fame, Dan Colby of Air America/
Immortal Air and Fred Schultz who is arguably
the best public relations man paintball has
ever seen. You see Bud and Dan are on the
foundation’s board of directors and they DID
NOT want to miss this. Fred is newly back to
paintball and having the opportunity to play
paintball with his long-time friend Dan was not
something that he was going to pass up. Now
I was scared because I am Canadian and the
border is closed to recreational travel. My loop
hole is that people can cross the Canadian/
US border for work and I am a member of the
foundation and I was going to the charity event
for “work” doing podcast stuff and reporting.
Ultimately though, it’s up to the guys at the
border if I’m going to be allowed on the plane
or not. It was a gamble to say the least but hell
or high water I was going to try.
