For damn-near seventeen-hundred dollars you ’ d better get a world-class paintball gun that all but does the work for you . While the BAD news is that the Eclipse Geo R5 can ’ t walk ( but we hear Jack ’ s working on that ), meaning you ’ ll have to move it from bunker to bunker , the GOOD news is that it offers a hell of a list of standard features and once you get it pointed at the bad guys , it shoots incredibly so it won ’ t be the gun ’ s fault if you don ’ t stack bodies . Speaking of those standard features , we ’ re talking a list as long as your … arm , so I ’ ll hit the highlights like allaluminum construction , the ability to completely strip the gun down for cleaning and maintenance with no tools ( and I mean the bolt system , batteries , eyes , the works here people ), a low-rise clamping feed neck , a POPS on / off bottle adapter , an adjustable blade double trigger , an OLED screen with 3-button interface and Bluetooth connectivity , an S63 multi-piece barrel system , a soft-tip bolt and – yes , Geo afficionados , an adjustable and swappable SFR to fine-tune solenoid flow . There ’ s more , but let ’ s face it you stopped reading and you ’ re looking at the pictures , aren ’ t you ?
The Geo R5 gets its electric power from 2 AA batteries , which are housed in the foregrip and can be quickly and easily swapped without tools – and if you ’ d been paying attention last paragraph , you ’ d already know that . While you have that foregrip off go ahead and get in there and clean those eyes that , yes , also pop right out without tools . Aside from velocity adjustment , you almost don ’ t need that little Allen key set Eclipse sends you in the zippered , padded gun case . The new Geo ’ s foregrip wraps high around the breech , and this in combination with the grip frame that sits low in the hand , creates an impressively low bore axis that helps the gun point comfortably and accurately . The complete package with a hopper crammed onto the feed neck remains nice and low . I ran my tester with both a Bunkerkings loader and a Pinokio Speed ( that ’ s right I said PINOKIO : if you know you know ), and I ran an Immortal Air 68 cubic inch bottle . The S63 barrel combines to just over fourteen inches with plenty of porting , and two inserts are included .
Once I got the Eclipse Geo R5 aired up and hoppered up ( it ’ s a word shut up ) my first few pods downrange really impressed me . The R5 is extremely quiet , a great bonus for woodsball because they ’ ll never hear it coming – they ’ ll just lean out or try to move and catch a stream of balls upside the face . On a tournament field this will also be a great help , while players attempt to communicate while everyone ’ s guns are rolling . Then there ’ s that classic , smooth and soft Geo shot : it ’ s back thanks to that GR drivetrain . Recoil is so minimal I almost hesitate to call it that , as the firing , cycling R5 has no discernable muzzle climb and merely a simple push back against the hand as the drivetrain do what it do . Let ’ s keep in mind that this gun shot so quietly and that smoothly out of the
