Although they showed flashes of explosive offense and would ultimately bounce back, the level of competition they faced out the gate left them with a sputtering 0-2 start for their season.
Layout and pace contributed as well. The field’ s snake side featured no fewer than five entry points, producing constant cross-field options and forcing defenders to cover multiple lanes simultaneously. That geometry favored squads that could rotate quickly and sustain pressure without depth. You can see that in the increased run-and-gun point totals on the snake side, frequent lead changes inside frames, and a spike in successful long-field run-downs.
Ultimately, the data reveals the success of changes that were made in the rules and tournament mechanics. And it gave us quantitative proof of how the new rulesets effectively reshaped the game. It’ s proof of concept. The introduction of the five-pod limit eliminated the notoriously monotonous lane hold, and the scoring rule change- weighting the number of points scored in prelim matches into playoff seeding- incentivized teams to hit the gas pedal and secure as many points as they could. Practically, that meant teams could no longer play prelims conservatively to merely secure wins; scoring differential mattered for bracket positioning. The effect is visible in the match sheets: opening-day point totals were higher than previously seen, competition was intensified, and the hope is that this creates a better viewer experience.
Key matchups in the knockout bracket crystallized how those elements interacted. In the quarterfinals, Red Legion’ s sheet read like a clinic. Despite tight matches against Damage and Infamous in the prelims, they went undefeated through prelims. But they truly asserted their dominance in their quarterfinal match against Dynasty, knocking them off with a statement 6-0 shutout. With that, they established themselves as the team to beat this season.
In fact, the quarterfinal round was telling, setting the tone for what fans can likely expect from the Pro Division going forward.
PaintballFIT and Tampa Bay Damage went toe-totoe with Fit edging out the win 5-4. CK Hurricanes and San Antonio X‐Factor produced mixed quarterfinal results, giving the sense that they are still finding their pace. The box scores showed both offensive flare and defensive lapses at critical moments. Mental mistakes were the theme there. On the other hand, Impact wore Infamous down in a detailed 4-2 win, showing the hardened detail that forces opponents to make mistakes and defeat themselves.
