And then there’s the TonTons, who won this event just two years ago and always seem to play their best in these opening events in France. Group A had the TonTons, Edmonton Impact, Marseille Icon and Amsterdam Heat—a tough bracket for sure. The TonTons would prove early on in the preliminary rounds that they were a threat once again in the CPL as they swept their group in the most impressive fashion, including a 5-1 win over Edmonton Impact. Their three games scores combined were 15-2. Edmonton Impact won their other two games and made the Sunday cut. Group B saw Houston Heat win their three preliminary round games, although Frankfurt Syndicate gave them all they could handle. In their first CPL event after moving up from the SPL1 MLKings Prague won two of their three preliminary round games and advanced. Polar Bears Tarko Sale from Russia were the odds-on favorites to win Group C of the CPL, and having Ryan Greenspan and Oliver Lang on the roster didn’t hurt.
