Temps were in the 90’s but with the humidity
the heat index would reach into the 100’s.
Preparation was done by both players and
the staff at White River Paintball to ensure
that players and refs would be sufficiently
hydrated and kept cool with players drinking
large amounts of water before hand, the
field bringing in cooling towels, water jugs,
and even a misting station to keep cool. One
thing was for sure, I would not let the heat
bring me down for this event.
I arrived at the field early in the morning to
prepare for the upcoming event and some
of my teammates were already there. Water
was getting staged for the team; canopies
were set up and everything was getting
ready in preparation for the event to start.
As the day was going on, I can tell the heat
was arriving as I was sweating profusely, and I
hadn’t even been on the field. I was drinking
plenty of water and still getting my sweat on,
I could tell this was going to be a long day.
The event started off with a morning briefing
along with the playing of America’s national
anthem, something I wish every field did
before we started and one more reason why
I love White River Paintball. The briefing
ended and off we went to get our gear ready
for the beach battle which was a standalone
30 min battle followed by a short break. I
have never been to ION for its D-day game
but let me tell you, getting off the boat while
being shot at by numerous enemy players
on a berm was a massive rush. We got off
our landing craft and made a dash for the
nearest bunker we could hide behind but I
knew that we couldn’t stay here forever. We
