being repaired so anything that involved a
tank we couldn’t do, which gave them free
points since we couldn’t do anything about
it. And once again the heat came at us. Even
though we started early that day, players
were sweating before we even began the
fight. The day drew on with our side and the
Axis side making gains on each other and
having some tough fight along the beach and
in Cargo City. The main battle ended, and
it was getting time to start the final battle,
something that I knew we had to either win,
or get a certain amount of counts in order to
stop them from beating us in the end.
The final battle consisted of two objectives:
Bringing back props that were in the middle
to our side of the field and to also turn the
three slapsticks to blue. The battle started
and I knew we had obtained some of the
props but not all of them and already all the
slapsticks had been turned red, which was
not good. The battle lasted 30 minutes but
it felt like an hour and with the sun beating
down on us, I was feeling the heat. Towards
the half way mark I began to feel dizzy and
short of breath and immediately walked

off the field and got into the shaded area
towards the briefing area. I was surrounded
by refs and players trying to keep me cool by
dumping water on me, putting wet rags on
my body, anything to keep me from getting
heat exhaustion. Thankfully it worked and I
was able to get up after about 10 minutes
from sitting down. I didn’t get to see the end
of the battle and as players made their way
back, I kept asking how we did, and received
mixed answers. When the time came to hear
the score, I was nervous. I knew that we had
a big lead but if they won the final battle and
took enough props, they could’ve made a
comeback. The score was said, and the Allies
took home the victory, but barely. The Axis
had made a comeback, but we were able to
hold them off by less than 100 points. In the
end I was grateful to have an amazing team
working with me to help with the win. The
staff at White River did one of the best jobs
to keep players cool, organized gameplay
and fielded some of the best refs I’ve seen
at a big game before. There is no doubt I will
continue to play here for their scenarios and
urge anyone in the Midwest to make the trip
here for any scenario.
