a Commander for a CPX Paintball event is
not just a weekend task, it requires months
of preparation and organization. The
earliest and one of the biggest hurdles to
jump is recruiting. Simply stated, you cannot
have an army without warriors. To assist in
recruiting the Commanders pick XO’s to
help build their team and organize their
movements. The XO’s for the Buccaneers,
working with Mary Burkhard, were William
“Madfrog” Crook and Richard “Mamba”
L, and for the Marauders, working with
Callista, were Archangel Mikel and
Shane Bunnell. After months of these six
people working extensively to build their
armies and strategize it all came down to
a three day event to see who walks away
with glory. Fridays at Legends events are
just as important as Sundays, you gain
the opportunity to walk the field, meet-
and-greets with new and old friends,
commanders choose sides and the Magfed/
Pump game. Starting in the afternoon the
Magfed/Pump players own the field and
square off against each other to defend
their title as the most accurate shooters
in paintball. Not having to deal with what
they deem as hopper-fed space guns, it
gives them the ability to move about the
field and snipe at their leisure. Friday is also
a day for the line in the sand to be drawn,
which team started on which side.
Black Ops Paintball in Myrtle Beach is
unique for a few different reasons, the
biggest being that it is a 13-acre field. A
13-acre field, at first glance, does not seem
to be a choice field for a CPX event but
its intricate design and layout offers more
than enough room for all the players that
were in attendance and it never lacked in
a firefight. We are all paintballers, different
in the styles we have come accustomed to,
but we still enjoy shooting opponents.
