EVERY YEAR ON THE FIRST Sunday of May and the first Sunday of October Splatterpark paintball field north of Columbus in Mount Gilead Ohio, holds their big game! These are the largest paintball events in Ohio and typically have over 1,000 players in attendance! They also have tons of items on sale for cheap! So if you need something for your gear, get there early! I was in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on vacation the day before the big game, so I had to hurry home to Ohio and pack for the big game! I had the new Tippmann Stryker MP2 elite as well as the new Dye Proto Rize marker as I wanted to try out these new markers in a big game setting. If you have never been to a big game, they are SO much fun! Huge crowds of players attend (953 were at the spring game) and there are targets all over the field. So having a marker that shoots fast and lots of paint is a great way to spend the day! Or if you want to save money, you can play limited paint with a magfed or pump marker and shoot a lot less paint. I decided before the game that I was going to shoot... A lot... So I budgeted for a few cases of paint! Splatterpark has a lot of land and 12 different fields that have many different styles of play, from speedball to pure woodsball fields with forts and trailers and even airplanes. This field is a must play for anyone in the Midwest who wants to try out a big event! There are no generals but each big game has a theme, as well as objectives that are timed. So if you are into that type of scenario play, you can get as involved as you want and help others push for flags and collect points for your teams color. This year there were orange and blue teams. I was playing on the blue side with SAS Ohio. But don’t feel like you “have to” worry about objectives or missions. As most players just want to shoot the other team, and these games you get so many opportunities to do that. You can read all about the game objectives here on their event page: www.splatterpark.com/big-game-info.html The refs do a great job of collecting you in the staging areas and dropping you off at different points on the field, and there are typically firefights happening within seconds of your drop onto the map, so always be ready!
