The air Sunday morning was thick with ferocious and barbaric intent. The Command staffs set up shop and started sifting through the diabolical errands that DJ has given them, the ref staff and photographers position themselves in the most critical spots, and the warriors line the starting gates. The horn bellows, the heartbeat skips once and they are off! 1300+ players once again stampede towards epic glory. Di Inferi jumped off to a start they could not have planned any better, they seemingly stopped every Crusader dead in their tracks, taking a good portion of the field and gaining points quickly. This swing in momentum was one that the Red team needed to hold tight to and ride through the rest of the day. The Red teams wall of players was sturdy and strong but not enough to stop the erosion caused by wave after wave of Blue team pushes and advances. The Crusade dug through the woods, through the Omen field and through the Cemetery to eventually put Di Inferi into a tug-o-war for field position. The Crusade advancement put a stopper to Di Inferi’s point grab and slowed the progression of their comeback. Though Di Inferi was able to cut into the Crusade’s massive lead they were unable to overcome the Crusade in the last head- to-head battle in the middle of the field, an all out brawl devised by the puppeteers for pure slaughter and enjoyment. With day 2 coming to an explosive end, only Final Battle was left, and with the game already decided, there was nothing to lose. Final Battle of Living Legends 12 only happens once. This means you only get one last opportunity to leave it all on the field, one last challenge against destiny, one last chance at glory. Every Final Battle that CPX Living Legends puts on outside of the hill in CPX has had a twist. Last year was at Hell Survivors and it was slapsticks, the previous 0100 paintball.media magazine year was the last at CPX in Joliet and they had cubes that you had to place in a barrel on top of the hill. This year for Living Legends 12 at Legacy Adventure Park they had a hill, they had slapsticks and why not add cubes into the mix. Players were tested for every amount of grit they could possibly muster, who would be brave enough to dare that 50 yard line, to score a slapstick or to place a cube in a barrel, who would come out a Legend? The game was in the books, the Crusade was only minutes away from glory. Every player in that Final Battle put on a true show of barbaric fortitude and fearless determination. As the horn closes Living Legends 12 and the crowd merges in the middle a display of sportsmanship adds the final touches on an amazing event. Before the awards are given out, CPX treats some of our young guns with gear that will hopefully carry them through the beginning of their Paintball career. The awards are presented, the most valued, the most feared, the true good sports and the toughest of our younger generation. The Crusade takes the Victory, congratulations to Sebastian “Seabass” Alvarez on his LL12 win and congratulations to the Crusade on a brilliant fight. Thank you to Legacy Adventure Park for putting heart and soul into their field. Thank you to CPX Event staff for producing another extravagant event and thank you to Solstice Law for their welcomed presence throughout the field. Thank you to all the photographers that make us look like heroes. With another Living Legends in the books it seems as though we have another year to wait on CPX’s finest, but they have still more to come this year. Hawaiian Legends is right around the corner and Endless and Dead are in the future. Check out CPX Events for all their great games. We hope to see you at Hawaiian Legends and next year for Living Legends 13.
