fan had a 5 light-led attachment on the visor under my
Contour Roam. I was ready to play in the dark!
This year’s game was themed on the Lord of the Rings
storyline. There were special characters my team was the
Fellowship of the Ring team (I was Gimli the dwarf) and
the special characters had advantages and disadvantages.
For example, all the special players could ignore their
first hit in each game; only the second hit eliminated us
from the game. But each team had a sorcerer or wizard.
We had Gandalf, who could tag back in 10 players per
scenario with his staff. The difference between a typical
scenario during the day and an underground “AKA night”
scenario is you count any hit as an elimination, because
The red team (Orc team) led by General Cathy Meloy-Lile
included the following teams, Rage in Paint, The Poynter
Brothers, FTF, The Great Lakes Rangers, Excel, The
Punishment, The Blastcamp Crew, Columbus Killision, CPX
Legionnaires, Indy Battleground Infidels, War Thunder,
and Brother in Arms. I was the General for the Green team
(Fellowship of the Ring team) and we had teams such as
SAS (Silent Assassins Squad), Delta Ops, Team Voodoo,
T3A, Whiskey Squad, Rowan FPJ, Dirty Dans, Spartans,
and The Special Victims Unit.

it is impossible when playing in utter darkness to know if
the paint broke on you or not. So this was an honor game
type style of play. They still have refs, but they aren’t being
called to paint check every few minutes.
Players from all over the Midwest attended with some
driving from Florida and even Canada because how often
do you have the opportunity to play scenario paintball in
an underground mine! It was a once in a lifetime event!
relentlessly down on us from the top of the hill, and our
goal was to get 5 of our special players past the Kracken
and into the mine up to the first wall. I have never played
paintball before with shields, but the four I brought were
SO helpful in this particular game as the front players
locked their shields side by side and pushed up the hill
while tons of paintballs shot out of the Kracken into the
players not shielded. When the paintballs hit the shields, it
resulted in astoundingly loud cracks. The adrenaline rush
