4-3. Hawaiian Heat and the Bay State Bandits were
the other quarterfinal round winners.
In the semifinals Indianapolis Mutiny squeaked by
the Bay State Bandits 5-4. And Montreal Image
again won by a single point 3-2 over Hawaiian
Heat. Montreal Image continued their streak of
one-point victories in the finals, beating Mutiny 6-5
in a great, great game. Hawaiian Heat took third
place by taking care of business against Bay State
Bandits 4-1.
Twenty-six teams entered Division 3 “WPBO D2”
(D3) X-Ball at the NXL Vegas Open. Annapolis
A-Team, with only two preliminary round wins,
would barely make the first round cuts, but
eventually work their way all the way to the finals
where they met Colorado Blitz. By the time the
finals hit A-Team was playing their best ball and it
showed as they completely manhandled Blitz 5-1
to take first place. New World Order beat Texas
PhalanX to claim third place.
The Camp Pendleton Raiders Black were clearly the
class of the Division 4 “WPBO D3” (D4) X-Ball group,
winning all four of their preliminary round games,
then cruising through quarterfinals, semifinals and
the finals, where they speed-bumped Capital Edge
DMG Gold 5-1.
In the ten-man it was the old school Bad Company
bunch from Maryland taking down the LA Hitmen
to claim first place. Bad Company went wire to wire,
not losing a game to win the ten-man event. They
may not have won the ten-man but the LA Hitmen
bounced back big taking first place in the Open
five-man division. Chi-Town Fury won the division
three five-man, Baltimore Savage beat Hawaiian
Heat to take division four, five-man and AZ Goats
won the M500 (D5) five-man.
It’s not often that the first major U.S. event of the
season is a good one. This one was a great one and
it sets up the rest of the season well. Next up for the
NXL is the Texas Open the end of April. For more
