Then there is the pizza that was mentioned
earlier. At some point in the afternoon, ODIL
provides lunch for the players. Not only does
your entry for the day give you an incredibly
fun day of paintball, you get food on top of
it. What could be better?
When asked to talk about magfed, here’s
what one of the regular players to these
games had to say:
“What is magfed? Is it a sport, is it a hobby, is
it an excuse to LARP? Its all of that and more.
To some, paintballing is just some weekend
fun activity for birthday parties, corporate
team building, or a teenagers excuse to
unplug from Fortnite a few hours out of the
week. But magfed’ers see it differently.

paintball. It is its own style of play. It’s not
how many rounds you put down range, it’s
that one round through the window, right

where that guy is peeking out from 50yrds
away. It’s tactics merged with skill, patience
and determination. What makes this a niche
is when a player has limited ammunition and
must use their brains to out maneuver their
opponents instead of laying a rope of paint
until the other is hit. The act of releasing a
magazine, loading another and getting back
on target in a matter of seconds differentiates
magfed from the other types of paintball.
It combines the realism of combat, often
referred to as Milsim, with the non lethal
foundation used by armed forces in training
for real life situations. For many it provides
an “out” or a sort of therapy. Stressful week
at work, time away from family for what could
be called R&R, hanging out with friends, and
in other cases, military personal utilizing the
magfed platform to supplement their desire
for combat as when they were enlisted.
