Planet eclipse quake
barrel
By Steve Mcguire
Planet Eclipse is making 2020 so exciting with all the new gear that they are releasing. One
of the most intriguing is their new rifled Quake barrels made specifically for use with First
Strike Rounds (FSRs). Rifling paintball barrels is nothing new. It’s been happening since the
mid 90’s and been a topic of hot debate for many years. The people for them would say that
their gun has never shot better so obviously it works. Then there were people like me who felt
that putting a spin on an imperfect paintball would cause it to hook. These Quake barrels are
different though. These are meant for FSRs which are a special kind of finned paintball that
get exceptional accuracy and extremely long ranges.
Planet Eclipse has taken the time to figure out the perfect bore twist and bore size (.685) to
maximize the potential of these FSR rounds. The Quake barrel is 11” long with a removable
muzzle break. The threading for the break is the same threads to use tips from the Shaft 4
and Shaft 5 barrel systems. Should you use one of these tips, that will make the barrel 14” in
length. It should be pointed out that the main section of the Quake barrel looks very similar to
Planet Eclipse’s FS series of barrels, but it is not compatible with them. Also, the Quake barrel
system has autococker style threads. At the time of writing this, I do not know if other thread
patterns will be made available or not. I think that Planet Eclipse really hit a home run with
this barrel system. I can’t wait to see what kind of a difference it will make out in the field.
Since this is Planet Eclipse, the safe bet is that it’s going to be amazing.
