field a bit soggy, if not under a little standing water, as Saturday saw the clouds give way to gorgeous sunshine with temperatures creeping into the low sixties – ideal weather for gearing up and shooting it out. Sunday’s weather was even better, with the same gorgeous sunshine and temperatures that managed to climb to near seventy to greet the over one hundred players who came to the park to participate in the North vs South scenario game based on events of the American Civil War. While Saturday was reserved for magazine-fed paintball guns and the players who carried them into battle, the hoppers were allowed to come out and play Sunday and while the majority of the players who participated took advantage of the ability to do their reloading 140 paintballs at a time into Rotors, Spires, Revolutions, Level loaders and Pinokios, many of the mag-fed players from Saturday got in on Sunday’s action as well. Thanks to the weekend’s juxtaposition of mag-fed and scenario events, Sunday’s game was an excellent showcase of the varied styles of play available in modern paintball as rental Tippmann markers could be seen alongside magazine-fed tactical markers, CCM and Phantom pumps, fully customized tactical Tippmann guns, mechanical GoG markers and plenty of tournament-level equipment from companies like Planet Eclipse, Empire and Luxe! Though the game was a Civil War scenario, we didn’t see anyone loading paintballs one-at-a- time down their barrels with stick squeegees or fixing bayonets, though a few shootouts got intense and close-quarters as the red, Rebel team spent most of the day smacking the blue, Union team around the field in what a Civil War historian could see was an reasonably accurate portrayal of battles like Bull Run or Chancellorsville. Before lunch, the Union force had been pushed all the way back to their spawn point multiple times, with players tagging into the game with paintballs flying around them and opponents only a few yards away before referees had to push the Rebel forces back to mid-field. With perfect weather and an amazing playing field, OXCC’s back-to-back Revolution Mag- Fed game and North Vs South scenario made for an exciting weekend of paintball for players of all skill levels and from all styles of play. The next event scheduled at OXCC is their third-annual Red, White and Blue game in which three teams battle at once!
