During the winter months, many paintball events take a hiatus while they wait for the snow to melt. But what if instead of waiting, they migrate towards tropical weather where they can escape the cold for a warmer climate? A three-day pirate-themed scenario paintball event appropriately named “Dreaded Legends/ Black Flag” came to Southwest Florida from January 29th – 31st. Over 750 players came from across the globe, powered by the paintball marketing and event-producing gurus from Illinois’ Challenge Park Xtreme (CPX). CHALLENGE PARK XTREME AND OHANA PAINTBALL CPX is famous for their “Living Legends” Big Game Event that has been growing annually since 2007. Just last year, the Living Legends event brought in 2,200+ players and when they informed their player base that they were expanding their reaches to a sunny, tropical state like Florida, Dreaded Legends made history by being the first 028 paintball.media magazine event to bring the record-breaking number of 750 players. DJ Fox produced the CPX Dreaded Legends event. Fox shared, “I have been part of the Living Legends event since the first one and just recently got hired on full-time with CPX back in November.” Fox also runs his own paintball team, Ohana PB, who also staffed the Florida event. FLORIDA TRACKS AND TRAILS AND TNT PAINTBALL Florida Tracks and Trails (FTT) is a 1000-acre outdoor recreation park that opened for business in April of 2015. The first event the Southwest Florida park held was the 3-Day CountryLife Music Festival that headlined artists like Reba McEntire, Billy Currington, Charlie Daniels, and Hank Williams Jr., just to name a few of the many musical performers. Close to 30,000 people, some pulling in with RVs and trailers loaded with motocross bikes and quads, attended the Music Festival, which all took place adjacent to the paintball portion of the park.
