The CPL semifinals were both great games.
Breakout Spa, who was red hot, beat one of
the best teams in the world in the Toulouse
TonTons 6-5 and Russian Legion Moscow
ended Edmonton Impact’s perfect season
5-4. This could not have been a bigger upset
in that the Russians were playing in the CPL
for the first time in years. Yes, we all know how
good this team is, but to step up from the
SPPL to CPL and then knock of Edmonton
Impact… that’s quite the feat. And they went
on to finish the job by beating Breakout Spa
6-5 in the finals.

In the Semiprofessional division (SPPL) last
event’s winners Expendables Feilding lost
their opening match of the event against
Helsinki Cyclone by a point. Then all they did
the next three preliminary round games was
put up three, 4-0 shutouts. Let’s rephrase
that—they played three complete matches
and didn’t allow a single point. [sarcasm on]
In the ocho round on Sunday the boys from
New Zealand slipped a bit, allowing a point
to Ghost Paris. Still they managed to move
on with a close 5-1 win [sarcasm off].
