In one of the real surprises of the event UpTon 187 cRew went on to beat the previously undefeated Los Angeles Infamous—a team that had already won the first pro event in the U.S. earlier in the season (PSP Dallas). Also in the quarterfinals San Antonio X-Factor beat San Diego Dynasty 6-5 in a game that can really only be described as a reffing disaster. With the game tied at 5 and up two bodies Dynasty’s Kyle Spicka did a run through, destroying the last X-Factor players. Inexplicably the ref nearest the run through threw the yellow minor penalty flag, which we would find out later, was for “overshooting.” And after watching the video of this a dozen times there’s no way this was a penalty. At that point Dynasty’s Alex Fraige and Ryan Greenspan went off on the refs and got another penalty—this time a major. So for the overtime point Dynasty started with only three players versus X-Factor’s full five. As expected X-Factor took the final point easily and moved on, while Dynasty literally had the game stolen from them. But his is paintball “the sport” and in sports refs make mistakes.
