In the Semipro bracket it’s been a two
team race for the top spot on the 2018
leaderboard. San Diego Aftermath’s three
first place finishes in the first four events had
them sitting in the top spot heading into the
World Cup. Their only non-win, a fifth place
showing in Atlantic City, is the only thing
keeping Aftermath from celebrating a series
win early. But right on Aftermath’s heels was
Indianapolis Mutiny. Their second, fourth,
first and third place finishes in the Semipro
bracket have keep them within striking
distance of Aftermath, but it would take a
perfect Houston Heat-like finish for them to
swoop in and steal the series title.
As you may have predicted San Diego
Aftermath was perfect in the preliminary
rounds, winning all four games and
surrendering only one point in each
contest. Indianapolis Mutiny started off
032
paintball.media magazine
strong with three dominating wins but
came up short against DZ All Stars in their
final preliminary round game. Montreal
Image, Royal City Seadogs and Hawaiian
Heat all went undefeated in the preliminary
rounds. Indianapolis Mutiny, San Diego
Aftermath, Montreal Image and the Royal
City Seadogs all win and advanced through
to the semifinals. There Mutiny took care
of Aftermath 3-1 and Montreal Image got
by the Royal City Seadogs 2-1. In the finals
it was all Mutiny as they cruised to a first
place win, beating Image 4-1. Mutiny’s win
was not quite enough to catapult them to
the top spot in the rankings title. That honor
belonged to Aftermath by the slightest of
margins as they edged out Mutiny by less
than half a seed point. Aftermath won the
battle for third place against the Seadogs
which was enough for them to keep their first
place 2018 season standings.
