Skirmish holds a special place in my heart.
I played my first game of paintball there
in 1985. I played the first ever Paintcheck
tournament there, I reffed the PMI North
American Championships there in the late
80s, I worked part time there for two years
and I’ve been back as a player and with the
media probably 50 times since I first played
at Skirmish all those years ago. The truth is,
the day I played my first game at Skirmish
32 years ago I left knowing I would make
this game my career—and somehow I did.
Going back to Skirmish for Invasion of
Normandy (ION) each year has been a
trip down memory lane. But it’s not the
only reason I make the four hour trek from
Washington DC every year. The game
itself is more than enough reason. And this
year’s crowd of 4,000-plus would be in for a
weekend they will never forget.
The uniqueness of Skirmish can’t be
overstated. The 750 acres and 50 fields are
just the tip of the iceberg. The fields are
incredible—with the amazing Tippmann
Castle, Tippmann City, The Alamo, Empire
Castle, The Airfield, Circle City and many
more themed fields. And situated in the
Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, less
than two hours from New York City and
Philadelphia, helps Skirmish draw record
numbers of players each year.
