If you walked away from paintball for the
past 12 months or so and just came back,
you may have missed one of the hottest
things trending in paintball right now. What
is that, you ask? The resurgence of classic,
old school tournament paintball. What Tom
Cole and his Ultimate Woodsball League
started almost eight years ago when he
singlehandedly brought back tournament
woodsball has now become a force in the
game. The recent Iron City Classic, Southern
Open Ten-Man Classic and Cousins
Paintball’s TexMec events are recent living
proof that high-level competitive Woodsball
is back. Recently Tim Montressor (promoter
of the Iron City Classic and member of
Tampa Bay Damage and Fivestar Lieida)
announced a new company that he and
Russell Jackson formed for promoting

classic tournament paintball. We caught up
to Tim and Russell recently to learn a bit
more about what they are up to.
Paintball.Media: Tim, Russell, how did
Classic Paintball Promotions Group come
about?
TIM: We decided to start the Classic
Paintball Promotions Group after seeing the
success of the Iron City Classic in Pittsburgh
last year. We saw a need to offer something
“more” for players. It’s great to see so
many independent events happening
around the country. However, for teams
to become more legitimate and for the
industry and sponsors to better support the
Classic format, a national series needs to
exist.
