Photo by Aaron Dill it cut through the air and all warriors red and blue alike raced to their first point, they careened towards their own rocky, shipwrecked death in the form of CHAR. The “locals”, the third faction, the green death, whatever myths that may precede this group, all true of course, they prove to be a force that neither blue or red wanted to tangle with. The CHAR is a group of ballers, with their own respawn cone, placed upon the field to cause chaos, destruction and bedlam. Both armies were stopped dead in their tracks and forced to face off with the unyielding locals to hopefully gain an edge over their opponents. Once the CHAR had been temporarily taken out of commission, blue and red could make their own claims for the strategic territory, they called upon their Scientists (chemists, hydrologists or geologists) to collect precious metals and samples trying to gain any territory or point edge they could. Joe Perez’s Red team seemed to be a dominating force all day long, but perceptions can be deceiving, Eric Byrant’s team continued to gain points and stay closely behind the red team. Late Saturday afternoon DJ Honu Fox, CPX game producer, approached the red command center with a present. This present was a suitcase bomb that was handcuffed to Joe Perez’s wrist, a bomb so sensitive that the slightest bump or misguided breath would vaporize Joe and his command staff. The info to disarm the bomb properly was on the field at a specific point. It was so easy, simply find the point on the map, go to that point, retrieve the codes and come back, why the hour long time limit they had no clue. The red team sent a group to recover the codes only to come up against the Green Meany, the red scout team had walked right into a CHAR stronghold and were quickly and effectively dispatched. The Red team was chalked full of CPX experience and were not completely fooled by this stunt, they had shooters on the ready. They immediately sent out a larger group to go deal with the 20 green players that guarded the future existence of Joe Perez. The army began to surround CHAR and attempted to shoot them out of their position. Eventually the Red team figured out that using the CHAR like a shooting gallery was akin to wrestling a pig in filth, the pig is actually enjoying it. The Red team was unable to relieve the CHAR of their position in the given time and Joe Perez was temporarily reconfigured. As Saturday rolled to a close it saw the end to an exciting day and the Red sitting on a decent lead, one that they would assume would not disappear so easily. The world of scenario paintball is a vast and exciting world full of opportunities, ideas and storylines. Paintballers attend these events with friends and family to shoot faces and have fun. Some may have noticed and some may have not noticed that there are many characters behind the scenes that make these games possible and fun. It is true that some are doing this for money but that does not mean that there is not blood, sweat and passion www.paintball.media 073
