The finals would pit the powerhouse Russian
team Moscow Red Legion against the Los
Angeles Ironmen, a once dominant organization
that had not won an event in ten years… a true
David versus Goliath scenario would unfold.
For this battle no rock or slingshot was needed
as the Ironmen literally did the unthinkable,
beating the Red Legion 7-5 to a stunned
Sunday crowd.
The game started out as many Ironmen games
have in this event with the ‘Men taking the
first three points. The Red Legion would
bounce back with two points of their own.
The Ironmen would then register back-to-back
points, taking a 5-2 lead. The Ironmen would
then get the game to 7-3 with just over two
minutes left in the game. The Red Legion made
a strong effort to get back in the game but in
the end the closest they would get is to within
two points as the game ended. The Ironmen
would close out the game, secure the event
win and stand atop the pro leaderboard after
one event. What a job by coach Todd Martinez
and the entire team.
Last year’s Semipro ranking winners ac: Diesel
made the jump to the Professional division for
2020. France’s Camp Factory would fly across
the Atlantic for their first NXL event and they
looked great from the moment they got off
the plane. Camp Factory would go undefeated
in their four preliminary round games, while
outscoring their opponents 24-7 in the process.
Blast Camp was the only other Semipro team
to win their four first round games.
