Even Models can have Halitosis (Bad Breath)

Millions of people have to deal with a common issue that plagues us each morning, and sometimes longer. The problem is simply bad breath, or Halitosis. Your dental staff is trained to handle this issue and can help figure out what is happening with the problem and find the root cause There are several root causes that can cause issue with bad odor stemming from the mouth. Often times it originates from the mouth cavity itself and can

differ based on the foods that are eaten throughout the day. As a rule of thumb it’s important to floss, brush, and use mouthwash at least twice a day to try and combat bad breath at the source. With regular teeth cleaning, the common brushing on a daily basis can assist with this over time, but if that is not enough, there are other things that can be done.

Causes of Halitosis

Bad breath can be a persistent issue that has serious problems that are more than just social. For instance, if the root cause of the issue is in the stomach, a person could have an issue with the pH balance or other issues. There are more causes that could be associated with the issue, and understanding how they can cause problems is one way to combat the issue. Consider some of the following root causes that could be the main problem with bad breath you might be experiencing.

Medications – Some medications like diuretics can dry the mouth and cause foul odors to move through the mouth. Saliva rinses a lot of bacteria, but if it is not present or has been reduced due to medication, bad breath is inevitable.

Respiratory Tract Infections – Some infections can cause serious problems with foul odor, especially when tissues in the respiratory system break down or become inflamed. The mucus and bacteria that backs up during a cold, flu, or any other type of malady can truly cause issues with odors.

Alcohol – Alcohol consumption is not recommended, and severe problems with drinking can cause major odors that stem from the stomach through the mouth. This issue is complicated with mouthwash as many are alcohol based. It’s important to thwart heavy drinking in order to dodge the issue that can occur with Halitosis.

Mouth Breathing – Sleep apnea, open mouth snoring, or any involuntary breathing that utilizes the mouth as a sole way to breathe air can cause issues with Halitosis. It’s important to seek medical attention for the aforementioned issues as they could end up being deadly if left untreated, especially sleep apnea.

When To Call your Dentist

Halitosis is not necessarily a deadly thing, so it is not imperative that you call. However, chronic bad breath can be a nuisance and indicative of other medical issues within the body. With that in mind, it’s important to continue to brush, floss, and use mouthwash at least twice a day. Aside from that, call your dentist to get a cleaning and further information what the root cause of daily Halitosis might be. If the issue is deeper than the simple things above, then it’s important to consult with your dentist as a precaution. Call your dentist today to make an appointment, as your dental experts can help you conquer bad breath for good.
