We are getting away from cash in our society for lots of reasons . One of the main reasons is because of counterfeiters who are getting better and better all the time . In fact I was just with a guy who came to Christ several years ago , who was a serious , serious drug dealer — right up next to the Colombian boys of South American . He took out a fresh $ 10 bill . He said , " I want to show you something ." He folded the $ 10 bill over at a certain spot and tore it and reached in and pulled out a thin strip of plastic — so thin you could barely see it . He said , " it ' s the kind of material used for contact lenses . There are numbers on this and when they check for counterfeit money — all they have to do is put a $ 10 or $ 20 under a scanner and you can see that strip . The counterfeiter ' s have not been able to duplicate this yet — but they will . "
No matter what we do to make money so it can ' t be faked they find a way . We are headed towards a cashless society . We are also moving away from credit cards because of credit card fraud . A friend of mine told me that he had a buddy that worked at IBM in a top secret place where they are developing new projects . He said that people kept losing their identification cards and people were picking them up and walking into places they shouldn ' t go . So they gave a special ID number to my friend . They put it on this thin contact lens material . They put a little cut right on his hand and slide that under the skin .
" By 1995 ," says Randy Boyett , vice president of Micro Card Technologies in Dallas , " half the people on the street may have a smart card in their pocket . The U . S . Department of Agriculture will soon launch a pilot program to issue food stamps as smart cards . Each recipient would receive a card programmed with a month ' s worth of benefit dollars , along with a personal identification number . The shopper would plug the card into a store ' s computer terminal , which would verify his identity and subtract the purchase from the card ' s memory chip ."
