For families and groups traveling together and those who just want

a little more space to spread out , Lido House ’ s five residentialstyle cottages provide a private retreat without giving up any amenities available at the hotel , which opened in 2018 on Balboa Peninsula as part of Marriott ’ s Autograph Collection .
The three-level cottages — all named for islands in Newport Harbor — each include two bedrooms , a living room , fully equipped kitchen , washer
and dryer , and rooftop deck with both a barbecue and fireplace . For warm summer months , all come with air conditioning . These beachy residences were designed by architect WATG and constructed by Matt White , owner and president of Matt White Custom Homes , who also built the home of Robert Olson , the hotel ’ s developer . Then five local firms , curated by R . D . Olson Development , created the distinct interior design motifs for each bungalow .

BROOKE WAGNER DESIGN
Newport Beach native Brooke Wagner , owner of Brooke Wagner Design in Corona del Mar , aimed to represent a local aesthetic for the Harbor Cottage ’ s interior . Avoiding kitsch , this cottage was designed as a nod toward the nautical surroundings on Lido Isle and Peninsula , and elsewhere in the harbor , while also showcasing Newport ’ s casual , coastal vibe .
“ Texture was important in the design ,” she says . “ We used baskets , handmade … tiles , nubby textiles , natural fiber rugs and window treatments , and even a vintage fishing net as a wall hanging . We used local art … to make it unique to Newport Beach .” The cottage incorporates ocean tones of blue and gray in celebration of outdoor living . The kitchen , with a breakfast bar , is attached to the six-person dining area and a sitting area with jute chairs . Upstairs , a white brick fireplace starkly contrasts the living area ’ s dark gray walls . A rooftop balcony with chaise lounges looks over the Lido House property . “ This was our first time working in hospitality ,” Wagner says . “ I loved everything about it : the collaborations between the designers , the overall concept of the project [ and ] even the hand off to the management with Marriott .”
