U . S . Navy P-259 P-8A Aircraft Apron Expansion
Our team helped the U . S . Navy when they assigned six new P-8A Poseidon aircraft to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island . Naturally , this required some infrastructure improvements to accommodate the aircraft . The improvements included an expanded aircraft parking apron , relocated and updated Liquid Oxygen ( LOX ) Facility to support the P-8A and remaining P3 aircraft , relocated Sonobuoy Storage Building , new ground support equipment building / shop , and a state-of-theart Corrosion Control Aircraft Rinse Rack to increase the useful life of the aircraft .
P2S led a team of 14 subconsultants , including architecture , civil , structural , electrical and geotechnical engineering ; surveying , hazmat , fuel piping and more . The LOX facility was designed per the requirements listed in MIL HDBK 1024-3 “ Oxyacetylene and Nitrogen and Breathing Facilities .” Some of the specific features included parking pads for nitrogen generators , concrete pads for LOX equipment to comply with NFPA requirements , design of the building to comply with the MIL HDBK requirements , fire suppression for the building , and the oxygen generators , vaporizers , storage tanks , associated piping and appurtenances , controls , cleaning of piping before startup , and associated commissioning documents for the contractor providing commissioning of the facility .
