Dear Reader ,
Kevin Peterson President
Carbon reduction measures for buildings are becoming increasingly accessible to many facility owners . New technology and manufacturing scalability are opening pathways for facility owners to reduce their emissions . The target dates to reduce emissions to near zero and decarbonize , whether for one building , a campus or the entire building sector , may be years or decades away , but the work to get there is well underway . Across industries , organizations seek cost-effective ways to meet climate goals , comply with evolving regulations , and optimize energy performance without compromising functionality or budget . P2S and Legence understand the challenges of aligning sustainability goals with practical implementation , and we are committed to delivering solutions that suit clients ’ unique needs .
This issue of P2S Magazine explores how decarbonization is changing the built environment and the AEC industry . Inside , you can read a feature with the chair of ASHRAE ’ s Center for Excellence in Building Decarbonization and P2S Vice-President Kent Peterson , discussing the dollars and cents case for energy efficiency and carbon reduction . We define some of the most commonly used decarbonization terms to remove uncertainty about what means what . We ’ ll also map a complete end-to-end decarbonization journey with Legence and highlight a recent UCSD project that will help the university reach its carbon goals . We also discuss how carbon reduction goals are changing MEP and HVAC design from Cindy Callaway and Scott Newman , two engineers with considerable experience in the field .
As part of Legence , our ability to offer end-to-end decarbonization solutions , spanning sustainability planning and advising , engineering design , commissioning , and contracting — has immense value for clients . We ’ re excited to enter our second year with the Legence family and continue designing resilient , efficient facilities that contribute to solving the climate issue .
Thank you for your continued support throughout 2024 . We hope you ’ ll stay with us in 2025 as we navigate this exciting new chapter in the P2S story . We ’ re thrilled to share this journey with you , and we hope you find inspiration within these pages .

Happy New Year ! Kevin Peterson , President
