With his full-time transition to CTO, he can now focus and spend more time on these endeavors, while supporting our engineers by providing practical solutions and quality designs for our clients.
How does this dual leadership advancement position P2S for continued growth?
When we were 50, 100, or even 200 people at P2S, Kent could effectively do both COO and CTO roles. But now that we have 350 people, it makes sense to divide the responsibilities so we can continue to grow our organization. This separation of roles gives Kent the opportunity to focus on engineering excellence, as discussed previously, and I hope to bring a fresh perspective to operations and support our people.
What should clients expect from you, Kent and P2S moving forward? Why should this leadership structure give them more confidence?
I came to P2S 10 years ago because of the company culture and its values of collaboration, striving for better, and building trusting relationships. I don’ t want to change that. This evolution of leadership will provide us with more internal bandwidth, enabling us to propose insightful engineering solutions, deliver quality designs, and be responsive to our clients’ needs. Moving forward, we are committed to delivering exceptional engineering, commissioning, and construction management solutions and will continue to work on creating a better future for our clients and the communities we serve.
You’ re entering the COO role with your own strengths, skills, and perspective. How do you plan to approach the job? Which operational issues do you have in mind for refinement?
“ The more I know, the more I realize I don’ t know”. I read a lot, 3 to 4 books a month, to enhance my strengths and develop new skills. I believe my strengths include working collaboratively with teams, planning and executing tasks efficiently, and being creative in generating ideas to solve project and operational issues.
Along with reading, listening to my colleagues provides me with new perspectives, especially when I face challenging problems. When doing this, I think having a sense of humor is something I admire in leaders, and it allows us to face challenges optimistically with a positive mindset.
As for operational issues, my focus will be on our people. Yes, I fully realize that our clients are extremely important, and we wouldn’ t be in business without them. Still, I hope our clients recognize that for us to serve our customers effectively, we need a motivated and engaged workforce to meet and exceed client expectations, and deliver on what we have promised.
