EDITOR ’ S NOTE

Dear Reader ,
LARRY SWARTZ
Principal , Seattle Office Director
Recent events have shown us that the effects of climate change aren ’ t a danger looming in the future anymore ; we ’ re experiencing the impact today . A renewed sense of urgency is present as we embark on a societal and economic transformation to reduce emissions and prevent the worst consequences of a warming climate . Much attention has been focused on the transition from gasoline vehicles to electric and on the transportation sector in general . Rightly so , transportation is the largest single source of greenhouse gases ( GHGs ) but not far behind in emissions is the building sector . And while most of the public is aware of the need to transition to electric vehicles , much less attention has been paid to the emissions impact of the built environment .
As building design professionals , it ’ s one of our responsibilities to inform and educate clients and community members about the emissions profile of our buildings . In addition to celebrating our 30th anniversary this year , we ’ ve also launched a communications campaign with building decarbonization as a central focus . This latest issue of P2S Magazine is a part of that campaign . Inside its pages , readers will take a deep dive into our decarbonization efforts direct from our experts . We feature an extensive interview featuring Aravind Batra and James Del Monaco , who discuss the most pertinent issues facing building decarbonization efforts and their specific approach to decarbonizing buildings . Readers will also learn about the P2S Decarbonization Task Force , whose mission is to innovate strategies and technologies to help overcome the most common barriers to transition buildings to carbon neutrality ; read about successful carbon-neutral projects and hear the latest company news and conference appearances .
We ’ re excited to share how our decarbonization strategies offer a new and exciting dimension to our services . And as always , we thank you for your continued support and hope you enjoy and learn something useful while reading this issue .
Sincerely ,
Larry Swartz
