Our Story

As with many groups, Joshin the Giants came about thru connections to one or more “music circles.”

It all started on a dark night along the Shoal Creek Valley. By fire light at the camp a mighty sound was building. Old friends and new ones were making music in the Ozark Mountains as another gathering was happening. There I met Josh Jennings, a fine writer, singer and guitarist. Being a writer and guitar player myself, we found a strong commonality of musical direction, playing on the other’s strengths.

Josh and Kris Hurt, our upright and outstanding bassist, met also by chance, several years earlier. Having just met, Kris took the stage to back Josh and they have been friends ever since.

Jazon Brown and I had also met previously. Being a gifted percussionist, and always in demand, I was lucky enough to have Jazon occasionally join us. Josh, Jazon and I had also backed friends’ performances a few times together.

As it would so to speak, the music came full circle over time, Josh, Kris and I formed Josh Jennings Band. Playing 70 shows a year for 2 years we really needed percussion and low and behold Jazon becomes available and it was complete. We became Joshin the Giants with Josh Jennings, Kris Hurt, Jazon Brown and myself, Bob Alexander, that’s the way it mostly was.
