D
avid Clarke has just
completed re-walking
and updating the Guide to
Walking 1066 Harold’s Way from
London to Battle, East Sussex.
The walk was inspired by King
Harold’s march to the Battle of
Hastings 1066 and in July 2019
it will feature as Run.1066, an
ultra-marathon over the full 100
miles, run under the auspices of
Beyond Marathon who have also
waymarked the entire route for
both walkers and runners.
1066 Harold’s Way, with its
start at Westminster Abbey,
Central London, continues to
inspire walkers and walking
groups to experience the
‘surprising’ green parks of
South-East London and both
the dramatic Kent Downs and
the almost medieval landscape
of High Weald AONBs en route
to Battle Abbey. With its link to
Hastings Castle, 1066 Harold’s
Way has become a true Capital
to Coast walk.
David is also working on his
popular series of History Walks
books that explore and discover
the rich history of Hastings,
Rye, Battle and 1066 Country.
Each title includes step by step
instructions, maps and are all
public transport friendly. The
two new additions to the list will
be 11: A Walk around Winchelsea
and 12: More Walks around Rye
and both will be available from
March 2019.
