t’s that time of the year again when Guild vice-president
Roly Smith is busy organising the annual Spirit of Kinder
event. This year’s event is being held on April 27 in The
Winnats Pass, near Castleton, where the famous open-air
access to mountains rallies were held in the 1920s and 30s.
Speakers will include Lord David Blunkett, former Home
Secretary and president of the South Yorkshire Ramblers;
Hilary McGrady, Director General of the National Trust and
Sue Hayman MP, Shadow Environment Minister, plus some
surprise speakers.
Two events are being celebrated this year, the 70th
anniversary of the legislation which set up our National
Parks (of which the Peak District was the first), and the
National Trust’s People’s Landscapes art project.
