G uild vice-president Roly Smith has been busy organising the 2017 Spirit of Kinder event, which this year marks the 85th anniversary of the 1932 Mass Trespass, and will be held at The Village Hall, Edale, on Saturday, April 22.
The line-up of key speakers this year includes Dame Helen Ghosh, Director General of the National Trust; Vanessa Griffiths, new Chief Executive of The Ramblers, and Stephen Trotter, Director of the Wildlife Trusts of England. The theme this year will be the outstanding re-wetting and re-wilding work which the National Trust and others have done on Kinder Scout, transforming the landscape which the trespassers knew.
The event will also see the launch of Clarion Call, a new book to which Roly has contributed and edited, celebrating Sheffield’ s place in the fight for access to the Peak District moors and featuring many previously unseen photographs of the Sheffield Clarion Ramblers.
