the right to walk freely over
mountain and moorland was
the birthright of every citizen of
Britain, at the 85th anniversary
Spirit of Kinder event organised
by Guild vice-president Roly
Smith, at Edale in April.
Other speakers at the
packed event included Vanessa
Griffiths, new chief executive
of the Ramblers; Dame Helen
Ghosh, director general of the
National Trust, and Stephen
Trotter, Director of the Wildlife
Trusts of England. As usual,
the event ended with a stirring
rendition of The Manchester
Rambler, led by Sheffield folk
singer Sally Goldsmith.
