oppack Baywatch
J
ohn Coppack has spent the past twelve
months watching the Bay - not the
box set of the famous TV drama but
Morecambe Bay. His latest project is
The Comedy Way, a semi-circular walk
around Morecambe Bay. The area covered
by the walk has the finest coastal scenery in north-
west England and several nature reserves including
Leighton Moss RSPB are visited en route.
The Comedy Way celebrates two great comic duos,
Laurel and Hardy and Morecambe and Wise. Stan
Laurel was born in Ulverston and in the central square
stands a larger than life statue of the actor and his
slapstick partner. Across the bay on Morecambe
promenade stands a bronze sculpture depicting the
comic genius, Eric Morecambe, who was born in the
sea-side town. The Comedy Way is bookended by these
two evocative memorials to the world of comedy.
A guidebook titled The Comedy Way is due to be
published in paperback in August.
