As women, I believe we have the power to change the world if we make the conscious choice to do so. My hope is that I’ve given you a renewed sense of the power of the human spirit, and the difference women can make when we band together for the sake of something greater than ourselves.

My experiences in Rwanda enriched my life in ways that I am still learning. The impact these women have had on my heart will stay with me forever.
While in Rwanda, I was honored to be given the designation of U.S. Ambassador for AVEGA Agahozo - a responsibility I don’t take lightly. Part of my role is to educate individuals and institutions about AVEGA and help share their powerful story.
I will be returning in a few short months to continue working with these exceptional women around business, entrepreneurial and leadership skills. If you’d like to learn more about AVEGA or how you can support them, please contact [email protected]
1
Work together toward a common goal – As women, we can often feel that we are in competition with one another because there is not enough room at the top for all of us. The women of AVEGA taught me that we are so much stronger when we support each other. Rising as a collective voice affords us the opportunity to affect change in our communities, the country in which we live and the world that needs us all.
2
Resilience – How many times do we find something too hard and just want to give up? We’ve all been there, right? The mental fortitude that these women had to develop as well as the capacity to keep going when everything was against them is truly awe inspiring.
3
Forgiveness – This was the most extraordinary lesson I took away from my time with these amazing women. Can you imagine finding the strength and courage to forgive someone who killed your entire family? For them, it was an essential part of their healing. They often pass those responsible on the street and needed to find a way to not allow the hatred to eat away at their soul. I’m looking at where I need to exercise this more in my life.
"A few of the many lessons I learned."
