FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

Become a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

VOLUNTEER !

The 2021 – 22 Season of Discovery has been just that : a season dedicated to exploring captivating stories as we rediscover the thrill of in-person performances . From new interpretations of beloved masterworks to the introduction of original series on and beyond our stages , this year has been filled with so many creative and visionary moments .

In the discovery of new leadership , the season has also showcased enthralling talent on the podium in our search for the BSO ’ s next Music Director , a process that continues throughout an exciting 2022 – 23 season . Meanwhile , at the helm of our administrative team , our newly appointed President and CEO Mark Hanson is poised to join us , after having led the San Francisco , Houston , and Milwaukee symphonies to great success . With familial ties to the East Coast , Mark has long admired the BSO , and we ’ re proud to welcome him to the BSO family . I invite you to read more about Mark and his excitement for the opportunities that Maryland has to offer on page 10 .
Join a team of musicians , staff , volunteers , and partners that plays many roles to connect people across Maryland .
As a volunteer , you ’ ll make an impact both behind the scenes and face-to-face with our patrons of all ages and help our work move forward .
Volunteer opportunities available for :
• Usher Support
• Education Support
• Concert Experience Support
• Offsite Promotions
• Special Events
• Administrative & Staff Support
The coming months also include the kickoff to our Music for Maryland Tour , in which the Orchestra will perform in every Maryland jurisdiction over the next three summers . Through unique programming and enhanced partnerships in each county , we ’ re looking forward to connecting more people to their BSO while also learning more about our State along the way .
The journey to rediscover our ties across the State , through initiatives such as the Music for Maryland Tour , would not be possible without the continued support from the Governor ’ s Office and the Maryland General Assembly . On the pages within , you ’ ll also find a special thank you for the ways in which our elected officials continue to make so much possible .
And , of course , thank you to each of you for your continued patronage and for joining us in a year that has truly shown the power of shared musical experiences , in our beautiful homes at the Meyerhoff and Strathmore as well as in newly defined “ concert halls ” beyond our traditional walls . While our 2021 – 22 Season of Discovery is coming to a close , we look forward to taking all that we have discovered with us on our next journey — the 2022 – 23 season .
