Each of the students below were nominated by their teacher or program staff to be featured in the BSO ’ s Overture magazine . These students were chosen for their leadership , musical growth , and admirable dedication to OrchKids . Learn about our amazing students below !

Jeimy Valerio , violin

Makayla Nixon , violin

• Fifth grade , Third year in OrchKids
• Site : Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School
• Ensembles : Cross-site Orchestra , String Ensemble
• Note from MaKayla ’ s teacher , Ms . Mallory : “ MaKayla has shown considerable progress on her instrument and note-reading skills over the past year . She even helped me teach other students how to read sheet music ! She was a leader in her class , and recently moved up to a more advanced class . She has dedicated herself to learning all of the scales and repertoire that her peers are learning . It has been a pleasure to watch her grow !”

• Note from Jeimy ’ s Program Manager , Ms . Samantha : “ Jeimy has been showing a lot of initiative and leadership since the start of programming this year . She helps facilitate our middle school / high school community times , assists with transitions between classes , and has recently expressed interest in conducting . We are grateful for her leadership and excited to help her pursue her new interests !”

• Note from Azmi ’ s teacher , Ms . Alejandra : " Azmi ' s love for music , commitment , and dedication have been evident from the first day . She has consistently showed up prepared , curious , and enthusiastic despite some challenges . Recently , Azmi had her first live audition experience . Her preparation paid off as she was the only student from her school accepted into the OrchKids Cross-Site Orchestra ! We are so honored to have Azmi in our flute family and look forward to watching her continue to flourish !"
