Conductor , trumpet virtuoso , singer , and actor Byron Stripling has ignited audiences across the globe . Named Principal Pops conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra , Stripling has led countless orchestras throughout the U . S . and Canada .
Since his Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Pops , Stripling has become a pops orchestra favorite throughout the country , performing with over 100 orchestras around the world including the Boston Pops ; the National , Pittsburgh , Dallas , Seattle , and Baltimore symphony orchestras ; the Cincinnati Pops ; and the Minnesota Orchestra . He has also been a featured soloist on the PBS television special “ Evening at Pops ,” at the Hollywood Bowl .
An accomplished actor and singer , Stripling starred in the Broadway musical Satchmo , performed in the television movie The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles , and was featured in the 42nd Street production of From Second Avenue to Broadway .
Television viewers have enjoyed his work as a soloist on The Grammy Awards , and millions have heard his trumpet and voice on television commercials , TV theme songs including “ 20 / 20 ,” CNN , and soundtracks of favorite movies . With artists from Tony Bennett to Whitney Houston , his prolific recording career includes hundreds of albums with the greatest pop , Broadway , soul , and jazz artists of all time .
Stripling was educated at the Eastman School of Music and the Interlochen Arts Academy .
Whether performing jazz or gospel , as a soloist or with a big band , the passion with which Bobby Floyd plays piano , organ , and keyboard is the result of a natural ability , his love of music , and years of practice . A child prodigy , Floyd ’ s delivery displays a unique , musical power that uplifts and inspires audiences around the world .
Floyd has toured and performed extensively with Ray Charles , Rusty Bryant , Jeff Tyzik , Chris Howes , Byron Stripling , Sarah Morrow , and his own trio . His current touring schedule includes performances with the Rochester Philharmonic ; ProMusica Chamber Orchestra ; and the Vancouver , Columbus , Edmonton , and Detroit symphony orchestras . He is also a frequent soloist with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra where his soulful sound has backed artist such as Chuck Mangione , Houston Person , Branford Marsalis , and Roy Hargrove .
Floyd has taught at Ohio State University and the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Workshops . His critically acclaimed CD ’ s Interpretations , Setting the Standards , Floyd ’ s Finest Gift , and Notes To And From My Friends demonstrate his ability to electrify audiences and have received the highest praise from critics and musicians alike .
