OrchKids Audition for Outside Summer Programming
Every year , OrchKids students have the opportunity to audition for and attend prestigious summer music festivals including Interlochen Center for the Arts , YOLA National , and Camp Encore / Coda ! These programs not only allow students to continue developing their music skills by learning from renowned musicians , but it also helps them grow as an individual . They travel the country and see new places , meet new friends , make musical connections , and gain some independence away from their families . Currently , nominated students who were interested in attending a summer festival are sending in their audition videos and awaiting results . Of course , there was a lot of preparation that went into these audition videos !
The audition process begins in October , when students and families attend an information session on the different summer programs to decide which program they would like to attend . The ball gets rolling in December when audition repertoire is selected , and students begin to take private lessons . In January , students attend a performance class to learn about the etiquette of audition videos , which culminates in a mock audition in front of their peers . The skills they learned in their performance class and private lessons , in addition to the countless hours of practice , shine through when they record their audition videos in February . Accompanying the audition video is an online application . The OrchKids team supports students and their families every step of the way — creating an account , editing written excerpts , translating from English to Spanish , and more .
