HISTORY OF THE TROMBONE
• The tenor and bass member of the brass family
• Body is made of brass , which is sometimes plated with silver or nickel
• Historically used in churches to accompany singers , it is often associated with mysterious and supernatural forces

1400s Trombones first appeared in southern France and northern Italy .
1500s Trombones were constructed similarly to today ’ s trombones and were regularly part of town bands .
1587 – 1612 : Giovanni Gabrieli composed brilliant antiphonal music for trombones .
1700s Trombones were frequently used in operas , but did not join concert orchestras until late in the century .
