When we were planning for the year ahead , we knew there were two essential voices to our future . Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush and Artistic Partner Wordsmith continue to shape this organization for the better through their outstanding musicianship , and we are honored to be able to announce the extension of both of their contracts for an additional two seasons .
Next year , Jonathan will continue to lead much of the work at the core of our mission , our education and family programs , while also championing another genre that he loves — Gospel music — in an entire festival dedicated to this great , quintessentially American artform . Wordsmith has also won over audiences through his exhilarating performances and will continue to innovate within the classical world through fresh narration and new collaborative interpretations with the BSO .
The 2022 – 23 season will also mark the first with our new President and CEO . It is these exciting initiatives and opportunities , outlined within , and so much more that has made this an appointment with so much to promise .
But for now , there are so many compelling performances still to come in our 2021 – 22 Season of Discovery . On behalf of the Board of Directors , musicians , and staff of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , I hope you enjoy tonight ’ s discovery .
