Elise Thora Volkmann Elise Thora Volkmann is currently in her second year at the Peabody Institute where she studies Vocal Performance with Ah Young Hong and Musicology. This past summer Volkmann attended Middlbury’s German for Singers program where, in addition to advanced German studies, she participated in a master class with tenor James Taylor. She received the First Prize in the Peabody Art Song Competition and was named a 2018 Marilyn Horne Rubin Scholar. Volkmann was featured in Stephen Hartke’s Sons of Noah at the University of Kentucky and with the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble. In 2018 she performed Life Story by Thomas Adès with the Oberlin Sinfonietta. Opera performances include the roles of Lucia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia and Oberto in Handel’s Alcina, both with the Oberlin Opera Theater. Volkmann has also performed the role of Sister Catherine in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking and participated in a master class with the composer at the Miami Summer Music Festival.
