Coming up in June, we will present Beethoven 2020, a continuation of our celebration of
Beethoven’s 250 th birthday. Pianist Evgeny Kissin performs a recital of Beethoven’s most
treasured piano sonatas, and violinist Viktoria Mullova joins the Orchestra to perform
Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Beethoven’s Ninth closes our 2019–20 season with text
reimagined by Baltimore-based rapper Wordsmith. In the fall, Marin Alsop and our
superb musicians open the 2020 –21 season with Beethoven’s Fidelio in a production by
Heartbeat Opera to reflect today’s changing world.
With the launch of our new Symphony in the City series, we are presenting free concerts
throughout Baltimore City, generously supported by our Community Outreach and
Access Sponsor, PNC. Performance venues and supporting partners include the Baltimore
Museum of Industry, New Psalmist Baptist Church and the Murphy Fine Arts Center
at Morgan State University, with an upcoming free concert on May 20 at Patterson
Park. We look forward to continuing this series of free concerts throughout the State of
Maryland in the coming months and in future seasons.
The BSO recently announced our five-year Strategic Plan 2020, a transformative and
sustainable plan for the future. Grounded in the core belief that great art and great
educational initiatives will grow our family of audience members and donors, this Plan
will enable the BSO to enrich lives and ensure that Maryland continues to be home to
one of the most important orchestras in the country. You can read more details about the
Plan on our website, BSOmusic.org.
As always, your attendance and support are vital to the BSO. Thank you, and we hope
you enjoy this performance.
