IMPROMPTU
Audrey Wright
VIOLIN
ART IN ALL FORMS
For BSO Associate Concertmaster Audrey
Wright, her passion for music was kindled at
a young age.
“When I was three years old, there was a
Suzuki violin program very close to where
we lived, and my mother enrolled me to see
if I would be interested. I took a liking to the
instrument immediately and haven’t wanted
to give it up since!”
Exposure to other young musicians and
an excellent youth orchestra fostered her
continued pursuit of music.
“I knew by middle school that I wanted a
career in music. It was around that time that
my parents had started driving me from
our home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts to
Boston every weekend to play in what was
known then as the Greater Boston Youth
Symphony Orchestras. Being around so
many other young musicians like myself and
playing great symphonic repertoire at that
age made me feel in my bones that I wanted
to be surrounded by music for the rest of
my life,” remembers Wright.
When not on stage, Wright unwinds by
exploring Baltimore with her fiancé and their
Boston Terrier. She also has a penchant for
the visual arts.
“I’ve always been into arts and crafts. Both of
my parents are visually creative people and my
mother is an especially talented crafter, so
I’ve been around that and inspired by that my
whole life,” she explains.
In fact, if you visit her hometown in Cape Cod,
you may even encounter some of her work.
“I love painting, especially with watercolors.
A few years ago I was painting a lot and even
had my own gallery show at a local cafe in
my hometown. I also recently began doing
calligraphy, and find it to be wonderfully
meditative and satisfying.”
